PARO FC’S CONTINENTAL JOURNEY CONTINUES BEYOUND THE SCORELINE.
Three consecutive AFC Challenge League group stage appearances. Seven Bhutan Premier League titles. Six consecutive domestic championships. One ambition — to take Bhutanese
Football is a journey of victories, setbacks, lessons, and above all, the determination to keep moving forward.
As Paro FC concludes its AFC Challenge League 2026/27 group stage campaign, we look back with mixed emotions. The results may not have been what we hoped for, but the experience, determination, and fighting spirit displayed by our players give us every reason to remain optimistic about the future.
Our continental journey is far from over. In many ways, we believe it is only beginning.
Three Matches, Countless Lessons
Hosting the AFC Challenge League Group A at Changlimithang Stadium was another proud milestone for Paro FC and Bhutanese football.

Competing against established clubs from Turkmenistan, Lebanon, and Syria, our players faced some of the toughest challenges of the season.
Our campaign began against Ahal FC of Turkmenistan. Trailing 2–0 at half-time, the team showed tremendous character to fight back and secure a 2–2 draw, with a dramatic equaliser in the final minute.
It was a moment that reminded everyone of the fighting spirit within this team.
Against Lebanon’s Al Ansar FC, we made an impressive start, scoring inside the opening minute. Although the match ended in a narrow 2–1 defeat, our players demonstrated their ability to challenge experienced continental opponents.
Our final match against Syria’s Al Ittihad Ahli of Aleppo was another closely contested encounter. Despite a determined performance, we suffered a 2–1 defeat following a late goal.
Three matches. One draw. Two narrow defeats.
The results tell one part of the story. But they do not tell the whole story of our effort, courage, determination, and ambition.

Throughout the competition, our players showed that they could compete, create opportunities, score goals, and challenge teams with greater continental experience.
There were moments of brilliance, moments of disappointment, and lessons that will help shape our future.
Three Consecutive Years Among Asia’s Continental Clubs
Reaching the AFC Challenge League group stage is never an easy achievement.
It requires success in domestic competition, preparation for the preliminary rounds, and the ability to overcome international opponents before reaching the group stage.
Paro FC have now accomplished this for three consecutive seasons — 2024, 2025, and 2026.
This year, our journey began with a 2–0 victory over Afghanistan’s Abu Muslim FC in the preliminary round, securing our place in the group stage once again.
For a club established in 2018, this consistency represents years of hard work, investment, planning, and commitment from everyone associated with Paro FC.
We are proud of how far we have come, but we also recognise that reaching the group stage is no longer our final ambition.
Our next goal is clear: to move beyond the group stage and compete in the knockout rounds of Asian club football.
We know this will require greater preparation, stronger performances, and continuous improvement. But every continental campaign brings us closer to understanding what it takes to achieve that ambition.
From Domestic Success to Continental Ambition
The 2026 season has already been a memorable chapter in Paro FC’s history.
Our men’s team secured its seventh Bhutan Premier League championship, including an unprecedented sixth consecutive league title.

Our women’s team also celebrated its second national championship, making 2026 another proud year for the club.
Our football Acadmey become the first club or national football association in South Asia to receive the Two-Star rating.
These achievements are a reflection of the dedication of our players, coaches, management, sponsors, supporters, and everyone working behind the scenes.
Winning a domestic championship requires consistency, discipline, and commitment throughout the season. Defending that title year after year requires even greater determination.
However, we understand that continental football presents a different level of challenge.
The intensity is higher, the margins are smaller, and the demands on players are greater.
This year’s AFC Challenge League reminded us of the importance of physical preparation, tactical discipline, squad depth, concentration, and experience in managing crucial moments.
These are valuable lessons that we will carry into our future planning.
Our ambition is not simply to remain successful in Bhutan. We want to continue growing into a club capable of competing confidently and consistently against strong teams from across Asia.
Building for Tomorrow, Not Just Today
At Paro FC, we believe that lasting success is built through long-term commitment.
Our vision extends beyond winning trophies and competing in international tournaments.
Through Paro Football Academy and our grassroots development programmes, we continue investing in the next generation of Bhutanese footballers.
Our initiatives, including Catch Them Young and Keep Them Moving, reflect our belief that the future of Bhutanese football begins with providing children opportunities to learn, play, and develop.
At Woochu Sports Arena, young players train and grow in an environment designed to encourage participation, discipline, teamwork, and sporting excellence.
We want our young footballers to dream beyond domestic competitions.
We want them to grow up believing that one day they can wear the Paro FC jersey, represent Bhutan, and compete against some of Asia’s best clubs.
Every continental appearance by our senior team helps bring that dream closer to reality.
The experience gained by our players and coaching staff can contribute to better preparation, stronger development programmes, and higher standards across the club.
The lessons we learn today will help prepare the players who represent us tomorrow.
More Than Football: A Collective Achievement
Hosting the AFC Challenge League group stage was itself a major undertaking.
Behind the three matchdays were weeks of preparation, planning, coordination, and teamwork.
From stadium operations and security to broadcasting, logistics, marketing, hospitality, and matchday entertainment, the tournament brought together numerous institutions, organisations, partners, and volunteers.
Approximately 250 people were involved in different aspects of organising and delivering the competition.
We are particularly grateful to the Bhutan Football Federation, Bhutan Sports Venture, relevant government agencies, institutional partners , commercial sponsors, service providers , volunteers, and everyone who contributed to making the event possible.
Their cooperation and support enabled Bhutan to host another important international football competition.
The tournament also brought football fans together, created opportunities for local businesses, and demonstrated the wider value of hosting international sporting events in Bhutan.
For Paro FC, the successful organisation of the group stage was an achievement shared by many.
It reminded us that the progress of football is built not by one individual or organisation, but through the collective efforts of people who believe in its future.
To Our Fans: You Are Part of This Journey
Perhaps the most meaningful part of our campaign was the support we received from our fans.
Whether you came to Changlimithang wearing red, cheered from the stands, followed the matches from home, or sent messages of encouragement, your support meant a great deal to everyone at Paro FC.
We know that many of you hoped to celebrate victories and see our team advance to the next round.
We shared those hopes.
And we understand the disappointment when results do not go our way.
But football is not only about celebrating when we win. It is also about standing together when the journey becomes difficult.
The support of our fans gives our players the confidence to return stronger, work harder, and continue believing.
Every cheer, every flag, and every message of encouragement reminds us that we are playing for something greater than ourselves.
To everyone who stood with us during this campaign, thank you.
Your support is not measured by the results on the scoreboard. It is reflected in the belief that keeps this club moving forward.
Our Ambition Remains Unchanged
Paro FC began its journey in 2018 with a vision to contribute to the growth of Bhutanese football.

Eight years later, we have celebrated seven national league championships, six consecutive titles, and three successive AFC Challenge League group stage appearances.
These milestones are important, but they are not the destination.
We want to build a stronger club, develop better players, create more opportunities for young Bhutanese talent, and continue raising our standards.
Our immediate focus will be on reviewing this continental campaign, identifying areas for improvement, and preparing more effectively for future challenges.
We will continue strengthening our technical and physical preparation, developing our squad, investing in youth football, and learning from every opportunity to compete internationally.
We also hope that our journey encourages more Bhutanese clubs, young players, coaches, and supporters to dream bigger.
The progress of one club can inspire many others, and the collective growth of Bhutanese football will create greater opportunities for everyone.
The Journey Continues
The AFC Challenge League 2026/27 group stage has come to an end for Paro FC.

We leave the competition with one point, three hard-fought matches, valuable international experience, and a renewed determination to improve.
There will be difficult matches ahead. There will be setbacks, challenges, and moments when progress feels slow.
But we believe that every meaningful achievement begins with the courage to compete, the humility to learn, and the determination to try again.
We have come a long way since 2018, and we know there is still much more to accomplish.
To our players, coaches, staff, sponsors, partners, well-wishers, and supporters — thank you for being part of this journey.
We may not have achieved everything we hoped for this time, but our ambition remains stronger than ever.
We will learn. We will improve. We will return stronger.
Because our dream is bigger than one match, one tournament, or one season.
The journey continues. The belief remains. And the best chapters of Paro FC are still waiting to be written.
